Although my cats don’t tear up the furniture and rugs anymore since I found a good scratching post plus a gentle deterrent for furniture scratching, one of my cats has stopped scratching the old post. It’s gotten a bit worn out, and I can’t find that brand anywhere to get a refill for the scratcher part of the post. I’ve bought other scratching posts at the pet stores, but none of them seem to be a good replacement, because this cat just won’t scratch on them – to the point that her claws started clicking when she’d walk on a wood floor!
I bought some cat claw clippers, but before I could try them on her my youngest son urged me to look once more for a good scratching post. This cat is eight years old and is a little less “domesticated” than any I’ve ever had in my life. I could slowly teach her to let us handle her claws and clip them, but if an easier solution is available, why not try it?!
I ordered two Bergan Turbo Scratchers, one for each cat, and they came yesterday. Wow, my two eight-year-old cats put on a hilarious show as soon as I put the scratchers on the floor for them! They’d each hit the ball and make it fly around the little circular track, often flopping onto their sides just in time for the ball to hit them and let them start another game. And they both also scratched and scratched and scratched the irresistible (and replaceable) corrugated cardboard center. I wish I’d discovered these scratchers sooner, because I think they will not only keep us from developing a cat scratching problem, they’re providing a lot of fun and exercise for these indoor cats.
At the time of this writing, this scratcher has 222 reviews on Amazon, and 159 of them are five star. But more importantly, cats seem to find it an intriguing game, as they track the ball, hit the ball, watch it, and even exercise those glorious claws. Check out the YouTube videos below to see some cats having fun with Bergan Turbo Scratchers!

I don’t have a cat, but my dog does need her nails clipped every 4 weeks. I never like to do it myself, because I am worried that I may hit the vein.
I don’t blame you, especially if your dog has some dark-colored nails. Here’s a pretty good looking how-to, if you ever want to try it, but if you have a good groomer that might be the easiest on you both.
I HAVE 6 CATS/HALF LYNX AND HAVE DELETED THE PROBLEMS WITH 2 BY 4′S FOR THEM TO SCRATCH ON,.
Glad you found something that works! Six cats scratching would be a real problem if it was furniture they were using instead of the wood!
